We all know about the 3 space dimensions ( length, breadth, width) and also about the 4th time dimension. These are the dimensions we can feel and see. So we know that they exist.
Now by adding some new dimensions we are able to unify the different fundamental forces in nature. Fundamental forces like the strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, electromagnetic force and the gravitational forces can be unified by the use of multi-dimensions. String theory predicts that atleast 11 dimensions are needed to unify all the fundamental forces. So our universe is thought to be made up of 11 dimensions. These new extra dimensions are used as mathematical tools for unifying the forces.

ReplyDeletehey watz the 4th time dimension ........??
ReplyDeleteTime dimension is similar to space dimensions. Lorentz equation shows that time expands as speed increases just like length contracts.
ReplyDelete3 coordinates (x,y,z) are required to represent a point in space. By adding one more time coordinate (x,y,z,t) we can represent a point in space-time. This represents an event occurring at a particular time t at a particular place represented by x,y,z.
Hey by usin 3 co-ordinates as u say (x,y,z)....v r able to calculate stuffs lyk area, volume n all.....!!!!....Can time also find space in tez eqns to calculate area, volume ....etc.......???
ReplyDeleteArea, volume, etc are attributes of space. Space and time are different. x*y*z represents volume which has a physical meaning in 3D space. Similarly x*y*z*t will be an analog of volume in 4D space-time. But it does not have any physical significance.
ReplyDeleteIts just crossed over my head. However, some physics fundu.... good job!
